One of the most difficult decisions in any type of genealogy publishing
is deciding when to stop researching the various family lines and when
to publish your findings for others to be able to make use of. Having previously done several other books I
can honestly advise that every possible family line has never been researched by every available avenue.
This gets proven more readily with each passing year. New genealogy information becomes available with
each passing day. It is now believed that Man's knowledge and available information doubles every eighteen
months.

This book is published knowing that it is incomplete. I acknowledge that I have yet to research many of the
various family branches in this book. A few years ago I wrote Ancestors and Relatives of Reverdy Lewin
Orrell, iV, which detailed my son's complete ancestry. Some of his direct line ancestors were traced back
thirteen generations. This current series of books doesn't go back in time; rather, they come forward. Each
book begins with one of our son's 'end of the line' direct line ancestor and brings that ancestor's line to the
present day. Therefore the reader will find our son, Reverdy Lewin Orrell, IV as a descendant in every book
in this series. Obviously, his direct line from the progenitor in each book is very well documented. Some of
the other descendancy lines from the progenitor have not been researched at all.

Why then, might you ask, is this series of books even being produced, if they are not completely researched
and documented? The answer is quite simple -all of the family trees and branches, all of the genealogy data,
all of the various source notes - do absolutely no good to anyone else when they are stored in my computer
databases, census databases, and file cabinets. While it is my intention to eventually work on many of these
lines again; I can't be sure that each project will ever be completed. Therefore, while I am young enough, in
good health, and have the necessary funds, I am doing this series of fourteen books. There are several other
family lines that are absolutely huge; some have been very well documented by other researchers. There are
a few other lines that I will be publishing at a later date.

I do not consider myself an expert on any of these lines. Many persons helped me out by researching several
of these lines before me. In all cases I have added to their research. Please note that the notes are not
rewritten and polished. The books in this series are intended to aid and assist other genealogists who are
interested in these various family lines.

Each book in this series is published on a very limited basis. A copy of each has been placed in the Library
of Congress in Washington, D.C., Daughters of the American Revolution Library in Washington, D.C., Latter
Day Saints (LDS) Family Library in Utah, the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland, and the
Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, Maryland.

An index of each book appears in the back. Please bear in mind that only descendants, their spouses and
their spouse's parents are indexed. Persons mentioned in the various notes are not indexed.

Listing 471 descendants for 14 generations.
1. Nicholas' BROADWAY was born about 1630. He married Catherine. She was born after 1630.

They had 2 children:

+ 2. M i. Samuel BROADWAY, born 1660, died Jul 1699.

3. M ii. RobertBROADWAY,died 1699, inMD. RobertBroadwayisplacedasthebrotherof Samuel

Broadway, Sr. due to his death date. His first account was dated 18 May 1699 and totaled
20 pounds, 14 shillings and 8 pence. His second account was dated 17 August 1699 and
totaled 25 pounds, 5 shillings and 3 pence. One of his most valuable possession was one
servant man with 2 1/2 years to serve. He was valued at 3 pounds. Valued at 6 pounds was
a servant boy.

Catherine died after 1678.

NOTES for Catherine follow:

See notes under husband.

At present there are no clues as to the possible maiden name or ancestry of this female.

Nicholas died after 1678, in MD.

NOTES for Nicholas follow:

Source: The Hargadines and Other Delaware & Maryland Families:

Nicholas Broadway is the first Broadway of record. He and his wife, Catherine, are referred to in the records of Talbot

County, Maryland, on July 19, 1662. They had at least one son, Samuel Broadway, Sr., who died in 1699.
{The book did not state the source of the record of July 19, 1662.}
Nicholas Bradway, age 29, mentioned in Kent County Court Depositions on 1 July 1659. Nicklus Broadway, age 30,

mentioned in Kent County Court Depositions on 20 December 1660. This would probably be the same person and

set birth year about 1630.
Talbot County Maryland Land Records, Book One: 9 July 1662 Thomas Phillips to Nicholas Broadway - 4 female head

of cattle; 1 of Thomas Snow, 1 of Mr. Rockwell of Ann Arundel; the other 2 being their offspring.
15 August 1665 Nicholas Broadway and Catherine, his wife, to John Davis - 100 acres, northern side Chester River in

Langford's Bay. Witness was Thomas Vaughn and Joseph Wickes.
Also mentioned in land record of 26 May 1685: 'Robert Bishopp of Michaell's River, to my only brother, Richard

Bishopp, planter, of Talbot - gift of 200 acres of land in Chester River on East Side of Langford's Bay, called

'Meconikin' adjoining land laid out for Nicholas Broadway.
Nicholas Broadway was cited in the 1678 Census of Talbot County. He was listed as having to pay 56 pounds of tobacco

in tax.

2. Samuel^ BROADWAY (Nicholas') was born 1660. He married Sarah DUDLEY before 1 680, in MD . She was born 1 660,
the daughter of Richard DUDLEY and Elinor.

They had 2 children:

+ 4. M i. SamuelBROADWAY, died 1743.

+ 5. F ii. Sarah BROADWAY, born about 1680, died after Jul 1730.

Sarah died after Sep 1712.

NOTES for Sarah follow:

Talbot County Maryland Land Records Book Three by R. Bernice Leonard states that on 1 1 May 1700 Sarah Broadway
of Talbot, spinster, sold to George Pratt, joiner - 100 acres of land called 'Greenhill', bequeathed to me by the will
of my late husband Samuel Broadway and also 100 acres of 'Dudley's' - also bequeathed to me by Samuel
Broadway. This was witnessed by Edgard Webb and Nicholas Lowe and acknowledged by Sarah Broadway before
Thomas Robins and Robert Ungle.

It is possible that Sarah Dudley secondly married Robert Mansell for we find on 27 February 1712, Robert Mansell of
Talbot, planter, and Sarah his wife, to Barthlomew Greenwood, planter - 100 acres of woods and uncultivated
ground, part of Parkers Farm; on or near Tuckahoe Creek - late in possession of Samuel Broadway, deceased with
Sarah Mansell being seized in fee.

Samuel died Jul 1699, in Talbot Co., MD.

NOTES for Samuel follow:

Samuel Broadway, Sr. married Sarah Dudley. They bought from her father, Richard Dudley, on August 15, 1682, a tract
of two hundred acres of land called 'Dudley' located on the north side of the Choptank River and of the west side
of Tuckahoe Creek. (Book 4, page 131, Talbot County Land Records). On November 10, 1692, Samuel Broadway
bought from Vincent Lowe a tract of land for eight thousand pounds of tobacco (Book 8, page 7, Talbot County
Land Records). On July 31, 1699, the will of Samuel Broadway, Sr. was probated in Talbot County, Maryland.
(Book Al, 1501). The Broadways atone time owned the farm of former Governor Robert J. Reynolds of Delaware.

Page - 1

The Descendants of Nicholas & Catherine Broadway of Talbot County, Maryland

When Samuel Broadway died he left ahout six hundred acres of land. The Samuel Broadway, Sr. and his wife

Sarah (Dudley) Broadway had two children: (1) Sarah Broadway who married Robert Frampton and (2) Samuel

Broadway, Jr. who married Sarah ?
Samuel Broadway's will is located in Liber 6 of Wills and on microfilm reel SR 4402 at the Maryland State Archives

in Annapolis, Maryland. It too is extremely difficult to read. In some places I can only pick out certain items. I

have tried to decipher any names that are mentioned. It follows:
In the name of God, Amen. I Samuel Broadway of Talbot County in ye province of Maryland being weak of body but

of good and perfect memory do make my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all wills by me formerly

made and this to be my only will as followeth. I commit my Soul into ye hands of Almighty God and my body to

be decently buried by my children in my own plantation according to the directions of my executor and after all

my just debts and legacies be paid I give as followeth.
I give unto my well beloved wife my plantation whereon I now live called ? and the land belonging to it. I give to my

son Samuel Broadway half ye tract of land and ye other half ye tract of land called Dudley. I give unto my daughter

Sarah Broadway half ye tract of land.
Of my personal estate it is my will that it should be divided into three equal parts and my son and daughter to have two

parts of it but in case my wife should be with child then it should be divided into four parts. It is my will that in

case my daughter Sarah should marry against her mother's will ye she shall have no part of this my will until she

comes unto ye full age of one and twenty years.
Witness my hand and seal the 8th of May 1698.

Samuel Broadway, Sr. died about 31 July 1699 for on that day his will was probated. It should be pointed out that both
he and his wife were probably not that old by modern day standards as he mentions the possibility that his might
be with child probably setting their ages below 40 years. I have seen this phrase from time to time in various wills;
however, as it is not included on a regular basis it is probably only used when it is believed that wife is definitely
pregnant or is still of child bearing age.

The inventory and account of Samuel Broadway, Sr. was located at the Maryland State Archives on microfilm rolls 45
and 66-7. The handwriting is very difficult to read. It should be noted that also dying in 1699 was Robert
Broadway who is placed as his brother.

4. Samuel^ BROADWAY (Samuel^ Nicholas'). He married Sarah.

They had 8 children:

James BROADWAY, died 1758.

Ambrose BROADWAY, died 1787.

Samuel BROADWAY, died 1764.

William BROADWAY, died 1749.

Robert BROADWAY, born 18 Jul 1732, died 1768.

Sarah BROADWAY.

Mary BROADWAY.

Ann BROADWAY, died 1798.

Sarah died May 1744. Samuel died 1743.
NOTES for Samuel follow:

Left about 700 acres of land when he died in 1743. His will was probated 18 March 1743.

Copy of will is in file. It should be noted that his will was written in 1742 and was witnessed by Thomas Frampton who
was his nephew.

208. M i. John FRAMPTON, born after 1700. He was oldest son and was willed 16 acres of Collins

Pasture for life
Thomas FRAMPTON, born about 1702, died 1766.
Robert FRAMPTON.
Sarah FRAMPTON.
William FRAMPTON, died 1754.

Robert died Jul 1730, in Talbot Co., MD.

NOTES for Robert follow:

Source: Rita P. Frampton, Ronald Frampton, George Frampton, and Blanche Frampton Pepi.

Robert was the immigrant ancestor who arrived in Maryland on 22 March 1675 (or 1676) (Ships records, Liber WC #2,
folio 89, Annapolis Commissioner Land Office) as an indentured servant on the ship Alexander, out of Bristol,
England, with 14 other indentured servants. Capt. William Jones was the commander. Rights to the servants were
proved before Lord Baltimore and conveyed to William Flood of then Dorchester County, Maryland. Flood
obtained about 800 acres of land in 1679, and these were presumably worked by the servants in earning their own
free land in accordance with the tenure system then in effect. In 1684 and 1685 Robert Frampton surveyed and got
land near or west of Tuckahoe Creek, probably in Talbot County, known variously as Frampton and as part of
Collin's Pasture.

He laid out a 122 acre tract called 'Frampton' on 24 February 1682 and acquired 'Collin's Pasture'. He married Sarah
Broadway. His son William bought land 1729 in what became Caroline County.

Talbot County, Maryland, Land Records Book Two by R. Bernice Leonard states that on 10 August 1690 Robert
Frampton, planter sold to John Robinson, planter, 122 acres called 'Frampton' on the west side of Tuckahoe, in the
woods on the west side of the land formerly laid out for John Wooters called 'Dunmore Heath' and 'Moorefield'.

On 15 January 1717 David Robinson, Judith his wife and Solomon Robinson, all of Talbot County, Maryland, planters,
sold to Anthony Wise, Gentleman - 122 acres called 'Frampton' in ye woods on the west side of Tuckahoe and the
west side of 'Dunsmore Heath' formerly laid out for John Wooters and the lands of George Bowes.

Robert Frampton's will is located in the Prerogative Court records of Maryland in Liber 20, folio 103 - 105.

In the name of God, Amen. I Robert Framton of Talbot County in the Province of Maryland, planter, being very sick
and weak in body but perfect in mind and memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my

God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in manner and form following.

Item. I give and bequeath to my eldest son John Framton one shilling sterling and sixteen acres of land being part of my
tract of land called Collins Pasture upon which I now live and which I bought of Benjamin Parrott Senior late of
this county by deceased this quantity of sixteen acres of land to be laid for him in such form as shall contain and
includes the dwelling housing and all other improvements that he hath made since he was married but not to take
away any part of my now dwelling plantation or other improvement that I have made upon the land to have, hold,
possess and enjoy the said quantity of sixteen acres of land during his natural life and after his decease my will is
that the said quantity of sixteen acres of land return to the uses and benefit and possession of such person or persons
into whose hands the remaining part of my lands shall be hereafter devised, given or bequeathed. And for the
remaining part of my land I give and bequeath the same to my dearly beloved wife Sarah Framton during her natural
life and at her decease I will and bequeath the same to my son Thomas Framton his heirs and assigns for but if my
said son Thomas should happen to die without lawful issue then my will is that the said land may be held and
enjoyed by my son Robert Framton Junior his heirs and assigns forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my son William Framton one shilling sterling in full of his portion out of my estate.

Item. I give and bequeath to my son Robert Framton aforesaid one shilling sterling in full of his portion out of my estate.

old to be paid to the discretion of choice of my executrix hereafter mentioned.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Sarah Framton whom I likewise constitute make and ordain my
only and sole executrix of this my last will and testament all the remaining part of my goods, chattel, and chattels
during her natural life and after her decease my will is that my son Thomas Framton be the sole possessor and
owner thereof. And 1 do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other will and legacy by me
before this time named willed or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other for my last will and
testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of October in the year of
our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty nine.

Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by Robert Framton to be his last will and testament in the presence
of the subscribers Roger Hunter, Robert Hunter and Joseph Turner.

The will was proved 21 July 1730.

George Frampton of Illinois, in correspondence to Richard Frampton of Charleston, West Virginia remarks that 'Early
in my searches here I concluded that all Framptons in Maryland and Delaware descended from the same original
settler and am on the verge of proving it. But there are still gaps. The Wrightnour book is helpful but terribly
erroneous in many way. The Wrightnour book is based mostly on what people living in about 1917 seemed to
remember, and some of it is good and some misleading.'

'Your account of the brothers fits the information that a John Frampton settled in South Carolina in the late 1660's, and
a Robert Frampton was in Maryland at that time. To summarize briefly some of the information I have from wills,
land, records, ground records, and interviews, and treating Robert Frampton as the first generation (Robert I),

Page - 1 6

The Descendants of Nicholas & Catherine Broadway of Talbot County, Maryland

Robert (I), by Sarah Broadway, had one daughter, Sarah Booth, and four sons John (II), Robert, Jr. (II), Thomas
(II), and William (II). I have lost track of Robert Jr's (II) descendants, if any. Thomas (II) and William (II) were
more prolific founders of two separate branches from which I believe we are both descended. Thomas (II) who
inherited Collins Pasture in Talbot County, married a Sarah and died in 1766 leaving Thomas (III) born 1744, John

(III) who died before 1766 leaving Joseph (IV) and Samuel (IV), Robert (III) who married Ann, Sarah (III), Mary
(III), and Isabella (III) married ..Hutchins. Thomas (III) died in 1841 at the age of 96 leaving Thomas (IV), Daniel

(IV) who was father of Luther (IV) and Charlotte (IV) or at least he had those children, and perhaps only Charlotte
and his grandson Luther survived him. Joseph (IV)'s descendants were the Elberts, Vincents, and Josephs more
recently on Tilghman Island.'

One of the Frampton researchers also sent me an unconfirmed pedigree chart on the early Frampton family in England.
The earliest on record is John de Frampton (or Frompton) living in the mid to late 1300's. He had a son Walter
Frampton who died about 1354 and married Marjorie Mcreton. Walter Frampton had a son John who had three
wives Isable Prouse, Edith Stawell, and Margaret Husse. This John Frampton was about 1366 and died 1425. John
had issue of Henry (no information), Robert (born 1400, died 1464) and William. Robert Frampton's line ends two
generations later but William Frampton's line continues through his only child John Frampton. John had one son
Roger who was born 1492 and died 1522. It is through John Frampton's other child Edward that the Frampton line
continues. Edward had one child John who was born 15 17, died 1557 and married Elizabeth Willoughy who died
in 1592. The tree expands quite a bit at that point as it is documented that John had 5 sons. It would appear that
our Robert Frampton was probably a great grandson or great great grandson of the above mentioned John
Frampton.

Sarah died after Jul 1730.

NOTES for Sarah follow:

Robert Frampton's wife has always been listed as Sarah Broadway although, to date, no marriage record has been found
proving her maiden name as Broadway. The Frampton researchers I have contacted state that there were many
connections between the Frampton and Broadway and that one family was selling land or witnessing documents
for the other. Also, there is proof that the Sarah Broadway, daughter of Samuel Broadway, is of the perfect age
to be the wife of Robert Frampton.

Cited as still being single in her father's will dated 8 May 1698. Father's will mentions 'if my daughter should marry
against her mother's will she shall have no part of this my will until she comes unto ye full age of one and 20 years'.
Therefore she was probably born about 1680 and married about 1700.

the sum of 20 pounds sterling, all that tract of land which William Frampton bought of his father William Whiteby

for 50 acres, called Ridge Range near Tuckahoe Creek.
The William Frampton mentioned is the brother of Thomas Frampton. The Richard Whiteby of Queen Anns County

would be the brother of Thomas Frampton's wife Sarah Whiteby with the William Whiteby being her father.
The original will of Thomas Frampton is located at the Maryland State Archives in Box 9, folder 38. It is also located

in Wills book #34, and on microfilm reel SR 4428.

and testament. In witness whereof I have put my hand and seal this second day of June 1765. Signed, sealed, and
delivered in the presence of us - Henry Clark, Anthony Booth, Senr. and Francis Regester.

On the 10th of November 1766 Sarah Framton made oath on the Holy Evangel of Almighty God that the above
instrument of writing is the true and only will and testament of the said Thomas that hath come to her hands,
possession, or knowledge and that she doth not know or hath ever known of any other. On the document is was
also stated that on the same date Henry Clark and Francis Register, two of the subscribing witnesses to the
aforegoing will being of the people called Quakers do make their solemn affirmation to the same information.

It should be noted that Quakers can not 'swear' to anything. They instead make a 'solemn affirmation'.

His will is found at the Maryland State Archives in Talbot County, Maryland Wills Liber JP 5, pages 215-216 (1797).
His name was spelled Joseph Franthom.

In the name of God, Amen, 1 Joseph Franthom of Talbot County and State of Maryland, being sick and weak of body
but of sound and disposing mind and memory do made and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and
form following: viz, first 1 commend my soul to Almighty God, and my body to the Earth to be decently buried
humbling begging God for all my sins not doubting but to receive the same through the ? and intergression of my
redeemer.

Item, 1 will and bequeath to my loving wife Mary Ann Franthom all my real and personal estate during her widowhood,
but in case of my said wife's marrying than in this case my will is that my son Elbert Franthom have and possess
all my land by paying to my four youngest children the sum often pounds current money, to each when they arrive
at lawful age, to wit, they boys to receive their part at the age of twenty one and the girls at sixteen, but in case of
the death of any of my four youngest children, it is my will that the death of any or all of the said children, shall
discharge my son to whom 1 have given my lands, from paying the part due to the said deceased children to any
person or persons whatsoever.

Item, I give and bequeath all my personal estate, at the death or marriage of my wife to be equally divided amongst all
my children except my son elbert and it is my will that my son Elbert Franthom shall pay to my four youngest
children at the age as before mentioned the sum above mentioned but on refusal of making my said youngest
children's payment, then the said children shall claim apart of my lands with my said son to whom 1 have given the
same.

Item, my will is that if my son Elbert Franthom dies without heirs lawfully begotten of his body then my will is that my
lands be equally divided between all my surviving children.

In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this twenty seventh day of June seventeen hundred and ninety seven.
Signed sealed and delivered to be my last will and testament.

Joseph Franthom made his mark. On the 5th day of August 1797 came Mary Ann Franthom who brought this will to
be proved and made oath on the Holy Evangel of Almighty God that the aforegoing instrument of writing is the true
and whole will and testament of Joseph Franthom late of the county aforesaid, deceased, that hath come to her
hands or possession and the she doth not know of any other.

Several items should be drawn from the above will. Joseph Frampton and Mary Ann Ganar had five children - 3 boys
and 2 girls. Elbert Frampton was the eldest and was probably of legal age at the time the will was written (27 June
1797). According to the will the four youngest children were under legal age. That is to say the males were under
21 and the females under 16. There were 2 males and 2 females. This is concluded by the statement 'the boys to
received their part at the age of twenty one and the girls at sixteen'. The only possible combination of 4 children
involving boys and girls (both plural) would be 2 of each.

225. Elbert' FRAMPTON (Joseph^ John^ Thomas\ Sarah^ Samuel^ Nicholas') was born 1775, in Talbot Co., MD. He
married (1) Eliza HARRISON.

They had 5 children:

235. Vincent* FRAMPTON (Vincent', Joseph^ John^ Thomas\ Sarah^ SamueP, Nicholas') was born 1803, in Talbot Co.,
MD. He married (1) Wilhelmina MELVIN before 1857, in Talbot Co., MD. She was born 25 Dec 1837, in MD.

They had 6 children:

George W. FRAMPTON, born 11 Mar 1857, died 1940.

James FRAMPTON, born 27 Jun 1860, died 29 Mar 1946.

Ernest FRAMPTON, born 12 Nov 1863, died 25 Aug 1957.

Walter FRAMPTON, born 1 1 Aug 1866, died 19 Apr 1932.

Mary FRAMPTON, born about 1874, in Talbot Co., MD. Mary's mother, Wilmina, is found
in the 1900 MD Census as living with her son in law, John S. Roe. Mary is the only
daughter listed in the 1880 MD Census with the family. It is possible that she is the only
daughter born to the marriage (her father was 7 1 years old when she was born). It therefore
is possible that Mary Frampton married John S. Roe.
+ 248. M vi. SamuelA. FRAMPTON, born Mar 1870, died 1959.

Wilhelmina died 26 Jun 1902, in Tilghman Island, Talbot Co., MD, and was buried in Tilghman UM Chur, Tilghman

Island, Talbot Co., MD.

NOTES for Wilhelmina follow:

Found in 1880 Census with her husband who was 35 years older than she was.

Noted that both of her parents were born in MD.

She is found in the 1900 MD Census with her son in law John S. Roe (Vol 41, ED 96, Sheet 3, Line 99 on District 5 of
the Bay Hundred in Talbot Co., MD). The 1900 MD Census shows her age as 62, being born in Dec 1832. This
is probably correct although her husband would have still been 29 years older that she was. She is listed as
WILMINA. Need to check out 1900 Census.

Tombstone states Willima Roe Frampton 1834- 1902. Source: Tombstones of Talbot County, Maryland, Vol I. This
would appear that her maiden name was Roe.

Death certificate (Hard copy in file) states she was the widow of Vincent Frampton and that she had 6 children living
at the time of her death. Her father and mother are listed as 'unknown'. Her death certificate states that her maiden
name was Wilhelmina Melvin. Her son's (Walter Frampton) death certificate also lists her as Melvin. It is possible
that the Roe was a middle name. Her son's (James Frampton) death certificate also lists her as Melvin.

It is also very possible that she was previously married to a Mr. Roe.

Vincent next married (2) Juliana. She was born about 1809.

They had 7 children:
